Dell released notebook with linux platform
Hi,
Good new for everyone who like open source. Dell released 2 notebook with linux platform. The XPS 410n and Dimension E520n desktops and the Inspiron E1505n notebook are scheduled to make their debut at 6 p.m. EDT on the Dell site.
It is said that "no computer maker with the market strength of Dell has made a similar commitment to supporting the free software." Many laptops right now install windows, I believe this is a good alternative for laptop user to take a look at opportunities to get laptop without windows.
The Dimension and XPS desktops have nearly identical configurations. Both include Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 processors, 1GB of memory, a 250GB hard drive, and a 256MB Nvidia Geforce 7300LE graphics card. The XPS, however, includes a 19-inch display, versus a 17-inch for the Dimension, and a read/write DVD drive. The Dimension has the same drive as the Inspiron. Pricing starts at $599 for the Dimension and $849 for the XPS.
The configuration looks good.
Businesses interested in a Linux desktop and looking for a mid-tier computer would find the Dimension attractive because it's as much as $200 less than a similar windows machine on Dell, Duboise said. "For a mid-tier offering, it's an assertive price-performance offering."
This is what laptop user looking for. We don't need to pay more for windows licensed,
With Linux platform in laptop we only pay for performance.
